Since the age of nine, Swenson has known she would one day become a lawyer.  Her passion for the law and for protecting others drives her forward. Even when she first began practicing, she taught law at Jones College in the evenings.

After 14 years of practicing law, why pursue a judgeship now?  Swenson has always aspired to be a judge, wanting to help people navigate their problems. Personal experiences led her to family law; she understands she can assist even more individuals as a judge.

As an attorney, her ability to help is limited. Through her volunteer work, she has discovered that the number of people she can impact significantly increases. Answering that call to do more is essential to her. For over 12 years, she has recognized the needs of her community through her volunteer efforts and as a board advocate, contributing over 800 hours of pro bono/modest means during the past five years.

Throughout her legal career, Swenson has gained extensive and well-rounded experience by practicing in a wide range of legal areas, including family law, criminal defense, civil litigation, probate, CHINS (Children in Need of Services), small claims, contract disputes, collections, and guardianship matters. This diverse background has allowed her to work closely with individuals and families from all walks of life, navigate complex legal issues, and advocate effectively in both trial and administrative settings. Her broad legal experience has prepared Swenson to approach each case with fairness, compassion, and a deep understanding of the law—qualities that she believes are essential for serving as a fair and impartial judge.

Engaged in her community, she took the initiative to get the Girl Scouts in the Carmel Parade 12 years ago. In 2013, she established the annual Juliette Gordon Low Halloween birthday party for the Girl Scouts of Carmel. Over 60 Girl Scouts attend this event each year. Additionally, she has participated in the Girl Scouts’ Annual World Thinking Day, collaborating with the Carmel Lions Club to enhance the event’s impact.

It would be an honor for her to serve as a judge in Hamilton County and assist its citizens. Her experience as a Guardian ad litem, Mediator, and Parenting Coordinator demonstrates the courts’ trust in her ability to make a difference. As a judge, Swenson believes she would be able to accomplish far more than she can as an attorney.

Outside of her legal work, Swenson plays soccer with the ladies in the over-30 league at Off the Wall. She is also an avid reader and enjoys antiquing and attending estate sales, particularly searching for vintage items like swung vases and carnival glass.

Recognized for her service as a Lion, Swenson was awarded the Miyamoto Fellowship Award for her public service and the Melvin Jones Fellow award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services by Lions Club International Foundation.

Before practicing law, Swenson served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army Reserve, receiving an Honorable Discharge and earning the Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
